PLAY IS LEARNING

“Play is often talked about as if it was a relief from serious learning. But, for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” (Fred Rogers)

ISR follows the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) throughout Primary, including Early Years. The IBPYP recognizes their role as the primary vehicle for inquiry. Children learn best when they are encouraged to be active, inspired to play and explore, challenged to be creative, and assisted in developing critical thinking skills. Children learn empathy and social skills through play; they learn to cooperate, take turns, and resolve conflicts; they gain leadership experience and follow someone else's initiative. They also develop early literacy and numeracy skills through play.

They generate ideas, create, use their imaginations, and talk about what they see and experience. As children explore their world and interact with the learning community, they learn to shift from a selfish to a more inclusive perspective.

HELPING YOUR CHILD ADAPT

Starting school is both an exciting and stressful time in a child's life. Children, like their parents, experience a range of emotions that can be overwhelming.

ISR provides a warm and nurturing environment for our youngest students. Our outstanding educators prioritize students' cognitive, social, and emotional well-being while assisting them in reaching their full potential.

Teachers maintain close contact with parents through newsletters, weekly emails, the Seesaw web app, and student-led conferences. Communication that is timely and effective allows everyone to "stay on the same page." There is also a parent WhatsApp group chat to encourage playdates and communication outside of school hours.

We also recognize parents and guardians as the child's first educators. ISR educators have extensive experience coaching parents to help their children learn to write, read, and follow basic household routines.

We look forward to working with your family during these critical early years.

A TYPICAL DAY IN EARLY YEARS

A routine provides security and trust to young children. Every day, children begin the day by interacting with their teachers and peers through self-initiated and teacher-guided activities. During the week, they meet with their PE, Art, and Music Teachers, who each enhance the children's learning in their own unique way. Children spend about an hour outside, moving, playing, and learning in the fresh air. Before going outside, the kids eat a snack they brought from home. After the outdoor play, it is time for lunch, which can be brought from home or purchased from the school. Quiet time is an important part of the day because it allows them to recharge their batteries. The length varies according to the children's age and needs. The day concludes with self-initiated and teacher-guided activities.
